Pollution Impacting Health

I came across this video, which originally aired on CNN to raise awareness about the pollution problem in Asia. Although it is two years old, the speaker in the video points out that every year, the cloud of dust and pollution hovering above much of the continent reduces the amount of sunlight reaching the ground.

Pollution can cause a lot of health risks for those living amongst it, including headaches, skin rashes, dizziness, asthma, kidney/liver/nervous system damage, birth defects and miscarriages. The Environmental Protection Agency provides a full run-down of risks associated with pollution here.

The problem is only getting worse, and unless more awareness is raised about it, it is likely it will continue to worsen and cause more and more health problems for people in the region.

  1. This is really interesting. It's great that you're bringing awareness to a topic that most people don't often hear about!

  2. I knew that pollution was bad for the environment but I had no idea how much other damage it causes. I wonder if pollution is a contributing factor to the increased number of babies with Autism and Downs Syndrome over the years. I also wonder if pollution has caused more diseases over the years. This is a very interesting topic.

  3. I think it is an excellent point that pollution is a serious issue. It also has to do with developing nations not having the financial means allocated to environmental causes to make themselves more environmentally friendly. This discrepancy will continue to cause a problem for the following generations, and will also increase the health related issues. I also think more should be done about this because if you think about it, it is a global issue because air travels.

Overall, I think this is a good issue to address in terms of global health.
